Many of us take pictures of our food and share it on social media. Maybe it's from a dish that we made ourselves or something that may have been ordered from a restaurant. Unfortunately, many of those photos don't make food look appetizing at all. Many food pictures are blurry, underexposed and lacks any type of detail that will make the dish look appetizing. So here are a couple of tips to help you take better food photos with your cell phone.
1. Shoot then Eat
I can't tell you how many times I've seen photos where people decided to take a picture of their food after they have taken a huge bite out of it first. Food looks less appetizing when there is a bike market in it. It is a good idea to try and capture the food the way you would want it to look on a menu or in a food magazine.
2. Nice light= appetizing food
Bad lighting affects the detail of any dish. It can throw off color of a dish. I'm sure greens should actually have the color of green in them and not dark brown or orange. If you are at a restaurant check the lighting or go to a window where there is natural light coming through. White or natural light will give you the best chance of capturing your dish in his proper color.

3. Try not to shake
One of the classic rules of photography is that when the camera shakes it will make the image blurry. The same thing happens when you are using your cell phone. There's two things you can do most phones today have image stabilization built the make sure it is on, secondly, you can stand the phone on a solid surface then take the picture. This will stabilize your phone while the image is being captured.
4. Clean plate
This is usually not a problem at most restaurants because the cook or chef will make sure that the rims of the plate is properly wipe down for serving you your dish. At home if you plan on taking the picture of your food make sure that any juices were other particles are wiped off the rim of your plate before taking the picture.
Finding the right angle to take your picture will allow you to capture a better image. This may require a few shots to find the right one. Tried taking a few shots overhead or holding your phone at a slight diagonal over the dish.
