I am getting real tired of all the hate on Sony cameras that I have seen over the last couple of years. Sony is the third-largest camera producers in the world only behind Canon and Nikon. They have innovated the industry inspired a whole new generation of cameras. While there are some general critiques of Sony cameras that I believe are fair the way that some have reviewed Sony dslr's at the least inaccurate and at worst downright misleading. Let's take for example one such reviewer Kei from digital rev TV.
Three years ago he reviewed the a 77. After making fun of the looks of the camera he went on to talk about how he didn't like the translucent mirror because he felt that reduced the amount of light that got sensor a call the camera sluggish in operation. Sony admitted that the a77 was in fact sluggishness of this operation and released a firmware update to try to address the issue. This is an example of a critique that makes sense. What does not make any sense is that every time a Sony dlsr comes up for review Kei never really uses one of Sony's top-of-the-line lenses. In his recent review of the a77 mark 2 he used a 50 mm1.8 or 1.4 lens. Which is the cheaper version. Three years ago he used the kit lens that was sold along with the a77 which is the 16-50 2.8. This lens is considered by many to be a will may high-performance lens. I'm not sure what his rationale is for not using Sony's top quality lenses when he reviews their cameras. I would like to point out when it comes to reviews of Cannon's and Nikon's top quality dslr's, he has no problem using their best lenses.
In 2012 when digital rev reviewed the Sony a 99 they use a fisheye lens and the same cheap 50 mm lens. Sony advertise the a 99 alongside the Carl Zeiss 24-70 2'8 ZA lens. Again what is the rationale for not reviewing Sony's flagship camera alongside one of their best lenses. To me it seems like this is being done on purpose. I haven't seen not one review from digital rev reviewing any of Sony's top-of-the-line lenses. Kei thus take plenty of time to call out "Sony fan boys".
This is a pattern of behavior of Kei, he has done the same thing with other products. He has been no fan of Sigma lens referring to them as cheap. Even though their performance especially with the newer global vision Sigma lenses are able to compete and surpass Canon and Nikon's high quality lenses.
I understand that people have their own rational for war they buy certain products from certain countries. What is concerning to me is when we do not give the respect to those who may use different products from different manufacturers. Two of my best friends of photography use Canon and Nikon products. We have been able to teach others who aspire to be photographers or knowledge of photography. When we are teaching others we are able to be more effective because we products from the big three in photography.
We do the industry a disservice when we do not of value waiting products on their performance equally.
